Corporate Power
The trucker is grinning, a “Democracy!” fan,
A self-made, salt-of-the-earth, grassroots man.
He shouts to the gophers and folks on the street,
While standing on top of his eighteen-wheel seat.
“The Will of the People!” he yells with a skip,
But look at the cuff and that “Corporate Grip.”
A giant in pinstripes is pulling the strings,
While the happy-go-lucky puppet-man sings.
The trailer says “Strong” with a flag on the side,
But Global Logistics is hitched for the ride.
It’s “organic” and “local,” or so we are told,
As long as the strings and the pulleys all hold!
The gophers are baffled, the onlookers dazed,
By the “natural” movement the corporate hand raised.
It’s a long-haul to freedom on someone else’s gas,
With a puppet at the wheel and a giant in the glass!
